OxLife Inverter Instructions

  1. These instructions are only designed for the OxLife Oxygen Concentrators (Excel/L-3/L-6/Freedom 5) and 1000 watt inverter. The inverter is to be used exclusively for the OxLife oxygen concentrator. No other device may be plugged into the inverter. Excel, Freedom 5, L-3 Max 350, L-6 Max Watt 500.

  2. The Inverter will power the OxLife Oxygen Concentrators from a 12 volt source of power (auto/boat). CRITICAL: It is critical that the auto has a 70 Amp alternator for the 3 and 5 liter Concentrators and a 120 Amp alternator for the 5 and 6 Liter Concentrator. Once the Inverter is installed, take car to a reputable shop which can check charging current with all options on, plus the Inverter, plus the Concentrator.

  3. Please thoroughly read the OxLife oxygen concentrator operator's manual and the Portowattz 1000 Power Inverter owner's manual before installing the inverter.

OxLife Inverter Installation

  1. A) The concentrator must be located in an area of the vehicle which permits it to be secured, via seat belt. In other words, place the concentrator in the back seat or the front seat, and make sure it is level, and securely attach it with the seat belt.

    B) Protect the interior seat covers. Place thick cardboard under wheels (if equipped). It is important that the machine not be permitted to move around or damages may occur.

     C) Only use the wire cable that has been provided. Any other wire cable will void the warranty.

  2. The concentrator must have proper air flow. There are intakes on the left and right side towards the top of the machine, and the exhaust comes out the bottom (L-3/L-6 only). Under no circumstance should the intake or the exhaust be blocked. Nothing should be placed under or around the concentrator. Once you have located the concentrator into the vehicle, then you can decide where to install the Inverter. Usually the Inverter is installed in the front seating area.

  3. Connecting the Power Lines: Open the hood. Make sure that the car engine is completely cold. Do not attempt to install this system in to an automobile that is hot - serious injury could occur from burns.

  4. Take the ends of the long 7' piece of battery cable coming from the inverter. Place the Inverter on the floor in the front seating area, then look at the firewall. In many instances you will find there are large rubber grommets installed in the firewall, which carry other wiring through the firewall to the engine. We suggest that you look for an appropriate size, one that's large enough to accommodate the cables for the Inverter, gently remove the rubber grommets and push the cables through into the engine compartment - both cables. Make sure that they are not sliced or damaged in this operation, where they would be exposed to the actual metal in the firewall. Locate the battery and snake the lines up to the battery terminals. Be careful they do not lay on anything hot, such as an exhaust or manifold, or any part that may ruin the insulation properties of the cables. Disconnect terminal where connector will not touch body or ground out on hood. Remove the insulation on the battery cable. Do not cut the battery cable wire. You are going to remove approximately 1 1/4" of insulation off the battery terminal. We suggest you use gloves during this operation. First, take a razor blade, or a sharp knife and gently go around the battery cable insulation, just to where you feel the blade hit the copper wiring inside. Remove approximately 1 1/4" of the insulation. Do this for both sides.

  5. Once you have done this, you will notice that one of the 7' Inverter cable is marked red. That is for the positive terminal. Taking the small brass clamp that is supplied, remove the nut off the top of the clamp, slide the u-bolt up over the stripped battery cable, then place the stripped end of the OxLife Inverter cable into it. Then install the nut. Tighten. Take the black cable and follow the same instructions as above but connecting it to the negative terminal of the battery. Once this is completed for both sides, be sure to wrap them in electrical tape, so they do not spark or touch any parts of the body. Tie wrap the cable in at least 5 places to make sure it does not fall or interfere with any other operations of the car.

  6. The short 1' cable can now be installed into the rear of the inverter. The red cable is to be connected to the positive port (+) and the black colored cable is to be connected to the negative port (-).

Next, connect the two pieces of cable together by inserting one gray connector into the other gray connector. Make sure the inverter is turned off before this is done.

Plug in the concentrator into the inverter. Be sure to secure the inverter so it does not interfere with the operation of the automobile. First, turn the automobile on. Next, turn on the inverter. Finally, turn on the concentrator. The audible alarm on the concentrator will initially sound. This is NORMAL. This inverter is equipped with an audible alarm which should the power start to go below what is recommended for the inverter, it will sound. If this happens, there may be a problem in the automobile's electrical system. Check out electrical system.

NOTE: When checking electrical system, make sure the inverter and concentrator are turned off.

IMPORTANT: Never have Oxygen Concentrator and Inverter on when attempting to start the car. Serious damage to Inverter will occur. Always turn off unit before starting Car.
