Frequently Asked Questions

I want to travel with my oxygen. What do I do?
The first thing you need to do is consult with your physician and find out if you need continuous flow and at what liter flow and can you tolerate pulse dose oxygen both when awake and asleep.

What is pulse flow oxygen?
Pulse oxygen is intermittent flow of oxygen that as you breathe in through your nose activates a circuit that gives you a pulse of oxygen. It is not continuous your mouth usually needs to be closed for this to operate correctly

What is continuous flow oxygen?
This is the norm for many years and is a continuous flow of oxygen at all times and remains constant regardless of whether you mouth breathe or not.

My doctor says I can use pulse dose while awake, do you have units that can do this?
We have the Independence that does both pulse and continuous.

My doctor says I can use pulse during the day but not at night do you have units that can do this?
Then you must have a continuous flow concentrator available for traveling at night, like one of our Oxlife portable oxygen concentrators. We also have the Independence that does both pulse and continuous.

My doctor says I need oxygen all the time.
Then you need to look at the Oxlife concentrators. They are the smallest, lightest, portable oxygen concentrators with 12 volt power for your car.

How difficult is it to use oxygen during travel?
It is quite easy. We have battery powered concentrators Oxlife Independence is approved for airline use as well as plugging it into your cigarette/power point outlet in your car and also plugging it into regular power outlet in your home. Example is if you are currently on cylinders and you wish to travel if you use the Oxlife Independence in the car and in hotel that leaves the battery use for going to the restaurant or store. If you have one of our other Oxlife Concentrators (non-battery powered) you may carry it on an airplane but cannot use while in flight. Please note Oxlife Independence may be used in flight.

Can I travel overseas?
Yes you can. Please let us know your liter flow and the countries to be visited.

What is the inverter?
The inverter takes the 12 volt power in your car and converts it to 110 volts to run the non battery Oxlife Concentrator. For installation questions please call Oxlife.

Can I buy any inverter?
No you may only use the inverter sold by Oxlife because any other inverter may cause severe damage to the concentrator. This will also void your warranty.

How do I operate the inverter in the car?
You always start the car first, then start the inverter, and then the concentrator. We do not recommend ever having the inverter and concentrator on before you start the car because you may cause damage to the inverter/concentrator if it is running when you start the car.

Can a humidifier botttle be used with OxLife Concentrators?                                               They can be used however the following steps MUST be taken. 1- When turning off the concentrator turn the flow meter down to zero or disconnect the humidfier tubing from the unit prior to turning unit off. This will avoid water backing up into the unit.  Please note on the Oxlife Independence you must keep the humidifer bottle below the top of the concentrator.
